Country Week 2009

June 28th - July 3rd 2009

CW 2007

Since 2001, Combined Universities Centre for Rural Health has offered a week's primary health care experience in a rural setting for health students.. A main focus of the week is for students to work together as a multidisciplinary team member.  In previous years Country Week has included students from Physiotherapy, Health Promotion, Occupational Therapy, Medicine, Human Communications Science, Health Science, Dietetics, Pharmacy, Nursing, Social work and Environmental Health.

The emphasis of Country Week is the health of rural and remote communities with a particular focus on Aboriginal health.  As a multi-disciplinary team member students will explore how integrated primary health care actually works. Discussions with rural health professionals, regional directors of health programs, and members of the community add another dimension to understanding health care in this setting.

Country week is scheduled for the mid year break, and students in their final year of study are invited to apply. Prior to Country Week, there is an information session to begin creating teams, to familiarise students with some of the essential concepts of primary health care, spend time on cultural training and to begin to understand the towns students are going too.

All expenses for the week inclusive of travel, accommodation and meals are covered by CUCRH. Country Week is credited as a clinical placement by most disciplines.
