Student Research Training

The Combined Universities Centre for Rural Health offers an excellent opportunity for students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate studies at Curtin, Edith Cowan and UWA to gain research experience in rural and remote health.

Based in Geraldton and serving the Midwest, Murchison, Gascoyne, Pilbara and Goldfields, CUCRH can match students with local health and community organisations to undertake research projects, dissertations and theses on topics of mutual interest. Students will be assigned associate supervisors from CUCRH academic staff in negotiation with the student's principal supervisor. Student projects can be organised anywhere in the CUCRH region.

Research training with CUCRH offers:

  • Stimulating academic environment
Comprehensive research infrastructure including office space and computer access
  • A multidisciplinary academic staff with expertise in Aboriginal health, health promotion, primary health care, public health medicine, rural and remote nursing and allied health, telemedicine, and social science
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative methods including surveys and geographic information systems
  • Opportunities to conduct research that makes a difference by working in partnership with local agencies and organisations on priority issues
  • Modest support for relocation and project costs may be negotiated on a case-by-case basis

Current CUCRH projects include promotion of physical activity among young people, prevention of farm injuries, health promoting radio, prison health, diabetes and asthma management. For more information about CUCRH research activities, see CUCRH Projects or staff profiles.
